Social Media Revolution- Is social media a fad?
November 5, 2009 by admin
Sometimes I get frustrated as some of you who know about social media probably do. What frustrates me is when a business doesn’t realize the huge paradigm shift that is taking place in communications and in advertising. What frustrates me is companies who think social media like YouTube and Facebook are only used by teenagers. As those of us know who are responsible for social media marketing within corporations or those of who consult in the area, social media is a mega-trend that, if not recognized and leveraged by corporations, will put them at a huge competitive disadvantage.
The solution isn’t frustration but it’s effective communications. We as consultants or internal corporate marketing folks must educate management, company owners, or anyone concerned with bottom line profits and their reputation about the need to become involved in social media today.
Below is a powerful video created by a close friend/past business associate and someone he works with who has been at the forefront of viral video and social media. I suggest you share it with decisionmakers in your organization and/or with consulting clients.
Please share with us where and how you used this and what the impact was…

The book, “socialnomics” by erik qualman, one of my reading recommendations on LinkedIn, is a fabulous, eye opening must-read for anyone interested in communicating and building relationships. The book is about “how social media transforms the way we live and do business.”
I’ve seen the video, “Social Media Revolution” hundreds of times and it stills mesmerizes me. The numbers are astonishing!
Thanks for sharing it as there are so many that have yet to view the video, and even fewer that don’t realize social media is here to stay.
hello, nice to follow on twitter
I’ve used this video before, it’s got some great facts and a very compelling layout/stream. – though some of the facts are outdated now (FB has over 300 million users too).
Thanks for sharing
Yes, I have actually showed this video in one of my social media presentation to a group of 20 people. They are astonished by the way how it affects the communication channel and the business. Good stuff… just got the book Socialnomics from Amazon … will read it soon
